From mogul skier to portfolio manager with $25.1 billion outsourced-CIO firm Hall Capital Partners,Rachel Kortlikes extreme sports. Kort, 32, grew up in Connecticut and skied competitively in high school and at Dartmouth College, where she majored in economics. She worked in the capital markets group at investment bank Salomon Smith Barney’s New York office before earning her MBA from Columbia Business School and joining Goldman Sachs Group as an investment banker in consumer retail. After two years with Goldman, much of it spent in London, Kort felt ready to move into money management, using her capital markets background to support her investment knowledge. San Francisco–based Hall Capital’s New York office hired her in late 2008; there she helps manage clients’ portfolios, including their hedge fund allocations. Kort, who still occasionally hits the slopes, was named a partner last year. |
