The 2014 Hedge Fund Rising Stars: Ezra Solomon
Solomon joined Talpion Fund Management in 2010, after it was founded by Henry Swieca, who also co-founded Highbridge.
Some of the hedge fund industry’s top investment pros are joining successful fund managers who have left the client-facing world to run their own money. Take Ezra Solomon, 36, a senior equities portfolio manager with Talpion Fund Management, the New York–based family office of Henry Swieca. Co-founder of Highbridge Capital Management — the now-$24 billion multistrategy hedge fund firm JPMorgan Chase & Co. acquired in 2004 — Swieca formed Talpion in 2010 after leaving Highbridge; Solomon arrived the same year. The Queens, New York, native received his economics degree from Queens College and earned a master’s in international affairs, with a concentration in finance, from Columbia University. He started out in Citigroup’s investment bank as an analyst in the media and telecommunications group, then became a partner at $3 billion hedge fund firm JL Advisors in New York. His older brother is David Solomon, global co-head of capital introduction at Goldman Sachs Group.
