Repeating in second place are Simon Lee and his Morgan Stanley crew. The five analysts — stationed in Hong Kong, Mumbai and Seoul — report on 30 Asia power companies and continue to impress investors with their coverage of renewable energy names. They possess “good access with major new energy and utilities firms,” observes one fund manager, who adds that the team’s “call on the rotation from new energy to the equipment sector is excellent.” Clean utilities outperformed the market in 2013, notes Lee, and his squad still likes the structural growth potential of the Chinese space, given rising concerns over air pollution in that country. In particular, he says, “we like Chinese wind power equipment companies, which will benefit from the wind power installation rebound in China and the U.S.” The Morgan Stanley researchers “understand the key drivers for the sector,” remarks another backer, who also lauds their beneficial “connections with government policymakers, industry experts and industry operators.” This year, Lee co-captains, with Praveen Choudhary, the squad that earns first place for its coverage of Hong Kong. |
