Pierre Lau & teamCiti
The buy side says: “He makes very good calls — with very good timing.”
The Citi team guided by Pierre Lau, 41, captures the crown for a sixth straight year. The 12-person squad, which is based in Hong Kong, reports on 50 companies. Among the ones rated buy are China Resources Gas Group, in expectation of “long-term, high-profit growth,” Lau says, and Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings, on the Hong Kong conglomerate’s appeal as an acquisition target. However, the analysts are bearish on China’s Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., asserting that competition will force price cuts on its wind turbines. Lau joined Citi in 2006 after covering the sector for Nomura and ABN Amro Asia; he has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Hong Kong. Lau “provides lots of news flow that gives us a feel for the industry,” cheers one backer. —Paul Sweeney
