Eduardo Coelho and Bruno Silva guide the Banco Português de Investimento team to its first appearance in the ranking, in second place. Newcomers Coelho, who works out of Lisbon, Oporto-based Silva and their 14 associates “understand the Iberian market really well, do a good job helping us interpret their research and provide great access to companies,” asserts one buy-side enthusiast. Last May the analysts told clients to buy Pamplona’s Viscofan, at €19.67, on the belief that the manufacturer of artificial casings for the meat industry would benefit from recovering prices and thus generate higher earnings. By the end of the year, the stock had racked up meaty gains of 44.2 percent, to close at €28.36. In comparison, Europe’s broad market advance of 9.7 percent undoubtedly left investors hungering for more.
