Stephen Melton has joined financial holding company Ameris Bancorp and its wholly owned banking unit Ameris Bank as executive vice president and chief risk officer.

Milton has been a banker for 30 years. Before joining Ameris Bancorp, Melton was CEO, president and COO ofColumbus Bank and Trust Co., regional CEO ofSynovus, chair of the finance committee atCB&Tand trustee of theSynovus Foundation.
