Roxanne Martino, CEO of Chicago–based fund-of-funds firm Aurora Investment Management, had every intention of becoming a doctor. It wasn’t long into her freshman year at the University of Notre Dame that she realized her interests lay in business administration. After seven years at accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, Martino shifted focus again, this time to finance. She joined Chicago fund-of-funds firm Grosvenor Capital Management in 1984 when the hedge fund industry was still relatively young, and rose to partner the following year.
